 OVERVIEW

Decorative duck carving is interesting, fun, and always a challenge, largely because we all are somewhat familiar
with the real-life subject. Therefore, the emphasis of this course is on creating aa lifelike a piece as possible.
The head-up attitude and folded wing pose is most familiar and slightly easier to create than one more dramatic,
allowing the student to concentrate on perfecting the techniques used. Primary wing feathers are carved
separately and inserted for an extra look of realism. Instructor's teaching aids include a mounted specimen, cast
resin carving, works in progress and photo reference. It is important to note the amount of "homework"
associated with a carving course of this level. It is recommended to plan for approximately 2 hours of homework
for every hour spent in the classroom. Otherwise, it may be difficult to finish the piece within the time allotted for
 the course.
